Once driven to extinction in the wild, red wolves are being slowly restored to their native habitat. Today there are approximately 100 wild red wolves again living in eastern North Carolina, but they are sometimes illegally killed or hit by cars. Climate change is also impacting their habitat. Because red wolves are so rare, the loss of just one wolf worsens the chances for the species’ recovery.
Your adoption supports Defenders' efforts to reduce illegal killings of red wolves, to work with federal agencies and local organizations to address threats to red wolves including climate change and to take opponents to court when they pass laws that increase illegal killing and fail to enforce the regulations that protect these critically endangered animals.
All donations support our work to protect and restore the wildlife and wild places you care about.
