Congress is preparing to divvy up federal funding through an omnibus funding bill and wildlife is once again getting short-changed.
Numerous destructive riders – or amendments – being pushed by anti-wildlife members of Congress could end up tied to this must-pass funding bill. These riders include provisions to block federal funding for gray wolf recovery in the lower 48 states, end red wolf recovery and declare them extinct and permit cruel “predator control” methods on Alaska national preserves. One rider would even end protections for over 900 species listed under the Endangered Species Act – that’s roughly 54 percent of listed species!
This politicizing of wildlife protections undermines the very foundation of the ESA and jeopardizes the future of every animal it protects. Congress should be focused on fully funding wildlife protections – especially the ESA – not finding new ways to destroy our conservation laws.
Give now to support our work to defend imperiled wildlife and the lifeline that is the ESA.
