A Devastating Deal for Wolves and Wildlife
Just before leaving D.C. for the 4th of July holiday, a handful of Democratic senators were busy putting pen to paper in a backroom deal to cosponsor a damaging bill (S.1514), that goes against the American public’s overwhelming – 90 percent – support for the Endangered Species Act (ESA).
This bill, deceivingly named the "Hunting Heritage and Environmental Legacy Preservation (HELP) for Wildlife Act," does nothing to "help" imperiled gray wolves and the many species that rely on the ESA. In fact, it is another glaring attempt to undermine the ESA by allowing politics to interfere with decisions that should be made using the best available science.
Besides including a "war on wolves" rider stripping protections from gray wolves in the Great Lakes region, this bill also bars any legal challenges to this delisting or the delisting of Wyoming’s wolf population – meaning they could never be challenged in court!
Let Senator Cardin know you are disappointed in his decision to cosponsor this disastrous bill, and as his constituent, you demand he withdraw his support.
