Tell your Colorado Senators, Representatives and Governor to Support Federal Protection for Gunnison Sage-Grouse!

After a decade of waiting, the iconic Gunnison sage-grouse has finally been recognized as threatened and given federal protections under the Endangered Species Act (ESA).

But many anti-wildlife politicians and special interests, including Big Oil and gas, will be doing everything they can to delay or overturn protections for this imperiled species. What’s worse, political leaders, including Senators Michael Bennet and Mark Udall, Representatives Cory Gardner and Scott Tipton and Governor John Hickenlooper, aren't listening to the 75% of Coloradans who, according to recent polls, support protecting sage-grouse.

If losing more than 90% of its historic habitat isn’t enough for them, how much closer to extinction does the Gunnison sage-grouse need to get before they change their minds?

Tell these political leaders that protecting the Gunnison sage-grouse is important to you!

Support Federal Protection for Gunnison Sage-Grouse!

Dear Colorado State Leaders,

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service recently announced that the Gunnison sage-grouse will be listed as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). The Gunnison sage-grouse is a beautiful bird and a powerful symbol of all that is wild in Colorado. Experiencing more than a 90% loss of its historic range due to activities like excessive grazing and oil and gas development, this highly imperiled species has been reduced to fewer than 5,000 individuals. Although local conservation efforts to protect the species are extremely important and can play a key role in its survival, such efforts by themselves are not sufficient to avoid listing the species under the ESA. It is unacceptable for you to turn your back on the science and the urgent need to extend ESA protections to the imperiled Gunnison sage-grouse.

It is critical for you to support federal protections for the Gunnison sage-grouse and to oppose any attempts to judicially or legislatively delay, overturn or weaken those protections. As stewards of our natural heritage, it is imperative that we protect our imperiled native wildlife and lands for future generations.

Thank you for your consideration.
