Polar Bears Aren't Addicted to Oil

Polar Bear and Cub (USFWS)Even as the US Fish and Wildlife Service is warning how shrinking habitat is threatening our polar bears, President Bush has once again called for harmful drilling in their most important onshore home -- the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Take a stand for the polar bears --  Call your member of Congress today, and say that Congress  should  stop wasting time on President Bush’s plan to drill the Arctic Refuge.

Talking Points

  • Earlier this month, President Bush said in his State of the Union speech that the United States was addicted to oil, and that we needed to move off of a petroleum based economy.
  • Unfortunately, the very next week, the President once again proposed to continue America’s oil addiction by including in his budget a proposal for drilling in America’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
  • This issue has been defeated by Congress every year that is has come up, and has repeatedly distracted us from achieving any real solutions to America’s energy needs.
  • Congress will be considering the President’s budget proposal in the upcoming weeks and it will be very important that they know we don’t want them wasting any more time debating this issue again.
  • I urge my U.S. Representative to do whatever it takes to make sure we don’t waste any more time debating drilling in the Arctic Refuge and instead move on with some real solutions for our country’s energy needs
